Much of the neighborhood was platted in the 1850's during the formation of Saint Cloud, Minnesota. The area consists primarily of single-family homes of a various architectural styles. A cluster of apartments at 6th Street offers multi-unit housing.
Typical evening scenery includes neighbors strolling along sidewalks. The last weekend of June offers great entertainment for families, as the Granite City Days parade begins at Hester Park.

Hester Park
Lieutenant Governor Charles Gilman donated land in memory of his wife, Hester Gilman in 1910. Hester Park's spacious 13 acres offer a beautiful view of the Mississippi and migratory birds. The city's annual Independence Day fireworks show is over the Mississippi, making Hester Park a superior viewing area. Features: wading pool, tennis court, basketball, trails, picnic tables, grill, playground, restrooms, sledding hill, flower gardens, and WPA craftsmanship including steps, walls, and bridges. Future plans include a connection with Beaver Island Trail and Lake Wobegon Trail. |

Whitney Spots Complex includes softball, baseball, and soccer fields. Whitney Recreation Center offers gymnasium space for basketball and volleyball, plus a walking track and children's playtime. Whitney Senior Center provides classes, dining, and social opportunities for senior citizens.
