In The News: 2023
- Discriminatory covenants were reported by MPR, Saint Cloud Live, and other news outlets. Though no such covenants have been identified in the Northside-Hester Park Neighborhood, discriminatory covenants were found west of 13th Avenue, four blocks away, in the Villa Park Addition within the Centennial Neighborhood.
- The city's Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday 14 February for the purpose of receiving input on the 2024-2029 Capital Improvements Program. The draft includes construction of a Mississippi Riverwalk in 2025.
- The former Gilman House, located in what is nowadays Hester (Gilman) Park, is pictured with Old Settlers members in the February 2023 edition of Stearns History Museum's membership magazine, "Crossings."
- The city honored pandemic staff of CentraCare with a monument in Hester Park, as reported on 27 January 2023 by WJON and KNSI, on 24 January 2023 by KVSC, and on 20 January 2023 by KNSI.

- The Park & Recreation Department mentioned sledding on the Instagram social media network. On 16 November 2022, WJON supplemented that list with an article that mentions additional sledding hills, including Hester Park.
- The newly elected city council representative for Hester Park and the Eastside is holding an Eastside-specific meeting according to a 5 November 2022 article on WJON.
- There was an alley brush fire in the 1000 block of 8th Avenue North on Saturday according news reports published by WJON and KNSI on 24 October 2022.
- All city pools remain will remain closed in 2022, the third consecutive year. The mayor suggests replacing pools with splash pads, as reported by KNSI on 13 June 2022 and WJON on 14 June 2022. Followup interviews by WJON on 17 June 2022 and again by WJON on 15 July 2022. discussed the various aspects.
- The Granite City Days Parade will start in the Northside-Hester Park Neighborhood again on Saturday 25 June 2022, as reported by WJON on 26 August 2022.
- The city will resume wading pool operations, the first season since pandemic restrictions were lifted. WJON's online article of 8 April 2022 features a signage photograph from Hester Park.

In The News: 2021
- The Saint Cloud Times published an article on Tuesday 31 August 2021 about the new Desi Murphy Studio in our neighborhood.
- The city council approved an exemption to the noise ordinance on Monday 23 August 2021. The trigger for this ordinance is the water treatment plant within Hester Park, whose generate apparently exceeds allowed noise levels.
- WJON reported on Monday 9 August 2021 that a "Medical Freedom" rally will soon be held in Hester Park. WJON, KNSI, and the Saint Cloud Times published followup reports on 12-13 August 2021. The park happens to be conveniently located near the Saint Cloud Hospital.
- Neighborhood residents Jane & Ron Brown were featured by the Saint Cloud Times on Sunday 8 August 2021 due to their decades of work fostering children.
- According to a Saint Cloud Times article and WJON, fire destroyed a garage in the 1400 block of 8th Avenue North on Sunday 11 July 2021.
- Hester Park's pool was featured by both the Saint Cloud Times and WJON on 7 June 2021. The news stories were about a shortage of lifeguards, which prevented city pools from opening in 2021.
- The city's Zoning Board of Appeals voted on 20 April 2021 to allow an existing Hester Park Neighborhood resident to open an art studio at 726 7th Avenue North. Coverage was provided by WJON on 27 April 2021.
In The News: 2020
- The water treatment facility upgrade and the simultaneous RiverWalk project have begun. As published by the City of Saint Cloud, KNSI, and WJON; Fifth Avenue North is closed to vehicular traffic 9 September 2020 through July 2023. A monthly project newsletter will be published at ci.stcloud.mn.us, plus sent via email to those who request it of Lisa Vollbrecht.
- WJON has been publishing non-news articles after each major news article. In August 2020, WJON published an article titled "Take A Walk To The River," which features Hester Park.
- A water main break unexpectedly closed Sixth Avenue North as reported twice by KNSI on 2 March 2020.
In The News: 2019
- District 742's acceptance of a child care center's offer to buy the Wilson Building on 20 June 2019 was published by WJON, KNSI, and the Saint Cloud Times.
- The Saint Cloud Times and WJON reported on 30 May 2019 that District 742 is considering five offers to purchase the Wilson School Building.
- A garage fire behind an 8th Avenue residence on Thursday 16 May 2019 has been reported by WJON and the Saint Cloud Times.
- The school board has chosen to put the Wilson School Building up for sale, as reported by WJON on Wednesday 20 March 2019.
- On Sunday 10 March 2019, the Saint Cloud Times' Editorial Board published an article in support of selling the Wilson School Building.
- Both AM 1240 WJON and the Saint Cloud Times are reporting Friday 8 March 2019 about Saturday's neighborhood gathering, which will focus on input for the future of the Wilson School Building.
- District 742 board chairman Jeff Pollreis was interviewed by AM 1240 WJON on the morning of Monday 25 February 2019. In the interview, he stated that the Wilson Building is likely to be put on the market.
- Snow and wind on a roof in the 600 block of 8th Avenue North formed a Minnesota silhouette according to AM 1240 WJON.
- School District 742 board chairman Jeff Pollreis was on AM 1240 WJON on Monday 28 January 2019. The discussion included an update on the Wilson Building.
- A house fire at 816 Veterans Drive was reported by the Saint Cloud Times on 25 January 2019.
In The News: 2018
- The Saint Cloud Times contained an article on 21 December 2018, providing a recap and status update on the Wilson building.
- In a WJON radio interview on 17 December 2018, Superintendent Jett said the Wilson School building is not currently for sale.
- Lacking a successful purchase of the Wilson Building, Little Saints Academy closed their facility in the Hester Park Neighborhood, as reported 19-21 November 2018 by KNSI, WJON, and the Saint Cloud Times.
- On 19 September 2018, the Saint Cloud Times reported that District 742 rejected a purchase offer for the Wilson Building by Little Saints Academy.
- School District 742 is again considering these of the Wilson School building. This was reported by the Saint Cloud Times on 21 February 2018 and by WJON on 23 February 2018.
In The News: 2017
- On 11 December 2017, WJON provided an update on the proposed RiverWalk, stating that upcoming city meetings will officially place it in the city's Capital Improvements Plan with construction to begin in 2019.
- An opinion article about the proposed RiverWalk was published by the Saint Cloud Times on 5 November 2017.
- City Council's approval of RiverWalk plans was reported by the Saint Cloud Times on 24 October 2017 and by UTVS News on 25 October 2017.
- The RiverWalk consideration by the Planning Commission was covered by WJON on 9 October 2017.
- The 13th Street realignment was covered by WJON on 20 September 2017.
- The proposed RiverWalk was covered by the Star Tribune on 17 September 2017.
- Another round of ideas has been published about the proposed RiverWalk by WJON on 21 July 2017.
- The Saint Cloud Times published an online story on 24 June 2017 about the Granite City Days parade, which starts in the Northside-HesterPark Neighborhood.
- Both KNSI and WJON reported on the announcement that DAYTA Marketing will be renovating and moving into the a building on the southern edge of the Northside-Hester Park Neighborhood.
- On June 5, CentraCare received approval to realign the 600 block of 13th Street towards the south, creating an intersection at the entrance of the emergency room. This was reported by WJON. The application and various drawings are attached to the Planning Commission's agenda.
- Butler Park in the 300 block of 5th Avenue North was dedicated on Saturday 6 May 2017 as reported by WJON, KNSI, MPR, and the Saint Cloud Times.
- A RiverWalk opinion article by Glenda Burgeson of the Saint Cloud Times Writers Group was published on 9 April 2017.
- On 6 April 2017, the Saint Cloud Times published an article titled, "What pollutes the river? Add lawns, dogs to the list." Though the article does not specifically mention any aspects of the Northside-Hester Park Neighborhood, both photographs feature the neighborhood.
- On 22 March 2017, WJON reported on the RiverWalk open house that was held at the River's Edge Convention Center. The Saint Cloud Times published a similar story on 2 April 2017, and MPR on 7 April 2017.
- Snow quilting that appeared on Rau Field reported on 19 January 2017 by both KNSI and WJON, the latter of which includes a drone flyover.
In The News: 2016
- On Martin Luther King Junior Day, 16 December 2017, the Saint Cloud Times and WJON report that the new city park in the 300 block of 5th Avenue North will be named Butler Park, honoring the first slaves brought to Saint Cloud in 1857.
- On 15 December 2016, WJON reported on the RiverWalk public-opinion survey.
- WJON is promoting the 14 December 2016 open house for a proposed RiverWalk from Cathedral High School to Hester Park.
- The Saint Cloud Times published an article on 6 December 2016 about demolition of the condemned house on the Mississippi, which will be replaced by the planned RiverWalk.
- WJON on 29 October 2016 published a story about the upcoming Ghost Tour. The Saint Cloud Times published a story on 31 October 2016.
- A paid ad for the annual Historic Ghost Tour was aired on KNSI radio, starting Wednesday 25 October 2016.
- On 11 October 2016, both WJON and KNSIcovered the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Beaver Island Trail's latest northern expansion. The trail has reached the southeast corner of the Northside-Hester Park Neighborhood. Plans call for continued northward expansion to Hester Park, behind the Saint Cloud Hospital, and to Sauk Rapids.
- On 18 September 2016, the Saint Cloud Times published a section of the paper titled, "Homes reveal our history." This included a full-page article on the Adams-Ramsey house in the 200 block of Sixth Avenue North.
- On 25 July 2016, the city council will consider hiring a consultant for the Beaver Island Trail extension from Cathedral High School to Hester Park, as published by the City of Saint Cloud and by WJON, and post-meeting by the Saint Cloud Times.
- In an 11 July 2016 article suggesting things to do this week, the Saint Cloud Times suggests exploring the walkways and bridges of Hester Park.
- The Saint Cloud Times published an article on 5 July 2016 about the annual Independence Day celebrations at Hester Park and Wilson Park.
- A Saint Cloud Times article of 17 June 2016 about Saint Cloud's vacant building registration references the NSHP neighborhood solely by referencing the mayor's 2012 veto of a street vacation in the NSHP neighborhood.
- KNSI radio published a story on their "KNSI Know Your Neighbor" event in Hester Park on 19 May 2016.
- WJON radio published a story with video about the Cathedral Chalk Mural on Third Street North. A series of photographs was published by the Saint Cloud Times on 18 May 2016.
- The Saint Cloud 2016 Comprehensive Plan was approved by the City Council on 21 March 2016, as reported by the Saint Cloud Times.

- WJON reports that on 12 Nov 2015, the District 742 Finance & Audit Committee publicly announced that Little Saints Academy has a new lease until May 2017.
- On 28 Oct 2015, WJON and the Saint Cloud Times reported on the grassroots neighborhood meeting regarding the proposed sale of Wilson School. Additionally, WJON conducted an interview at noon with school board chair Dennis Whipple.
- On 15 Oct 2015, the Saint Cloud Times reported some information presented about Wilson School the evening prior.
- On 14 Oct 2015, the Saint Cloud Times reported the Little Saints Academy will host a meeting about the future of their current location, Wilson School.
- Saint Cloud Times writer Frank Rajkowski's history article of September 18 notates that five years ago, the Hester Park neighborhood commemorated the park's 100th birthday.
- Mississippi Partners gained WJON's attention on June 18 with a story about the proposed trail along the Mississippi River through the Hester Park neighborhood.
- The City Council will be considering six applications for the recently vacated representation of Hester Park Neighborhood (and all of Ward 2). According to WJON and the Saint Cloud Times, a decision is expected on June 23.
- The City Council is seeking applicants from Hester Park Neighborhood (and all of Ward 2) for city council. Applications are due June 2, as reported by WJON.
- Hester Park parked was featured on the front cover of the May 10 Saint Cloud Times, as "Northside's Gem."
- On April 26, the Saint Cloud Times announced their second annual series of walks in the park, including May 12 at noon in Hester Park.
- On February 23, the city council approved extension of the Beaver Island Trail from the Convention Center to the southern edge of our neighborhood. See WJON's news article, WJON's follow-up article, University Chronicle's article, and Saint Cloud Times' editorial. Construction is to start in spring 2015, and be competed in summer 2016.
In The News: 2014
- A photograph of Hester Park made the cover of November 11's Saint Cloud Times. Jumping to the national level, the same photograph appeared in the USA Today national section distributed with local newspapers.
- On November 6, the Saint Cloud Times referenced Hester's zoning in an article about Winona's rental ordinance.
- On October 17, the Saint Cloud Times announced Hester's "Ghostwalks". On October 24, WJON aired an interview about the "Ghostwalk".
- On July 22, the Saint Cloud Times published two general articles about housing and livability in core neighborhoods. The articles indirectly and directly reference the Hester Park neighborhood.
- Both WJON and the Saint Cloud Times are reporting that the home at 610 7th Avenue North was destroyed by fire this morning July 5. Updated articles from both WJON and the Saint Cloud Times on July 10 declare the cause to be a bird nest. See the house's history.
- On July 5, the Saint Cloud Times published an article about the Saint Cloud Fireworks and its tradition in this neighborhood.
- The first annual neighborhood garage sale resulted in an article in the Saint Cloud Times on June 16.
- The Saint Cloud Hospital has announced plans to expand the Gorecki Guest House, which was reported by WJON on May 27 and the Saint Cloud Times on May 28.
- The neighborhood's southern zoning survey and Planning Commission discussion was reported by the Saint Cloud Times on both May 11 and May 15.
- The city's comprehensive plan will soon be revised, as reported by the Saint Cloud Times on May 6. This may include some attention on the Northside-Hester Park Neighborhood.
- On April 20, the Saint Cloud Times reported that former neighbor Peter Marshall will undertake another canoe adventure. Using 1905 style equipment, he will retrace Mina Hubbard's journey.
- On April 6, the Saint Cloud times published a review of Mayor Dave Kleis' past speeches. The review briefly references our neighborhood's previous support of the pool in Hester Park.
- On January 14, WJON-AM reported that 10th Street North is the preferred choice for Lake Wobegon Trail's extension.
In The News: 2013
- More of a conversation piece than news: The Saint Cloud Planning Commission of October 2013 included a reinforcement of a 1919 action. Apparently the city had vacated (given up control of) a piece of land at 900 5th Street North. That vacation was not properly recorded with the county, and thus the commission had to reinforce the 1919 decision now in 2013. Details are on theiragenda. Update: also on the October 21, 2013 city council agenda.
- The Saint Cloud Times featured our neighborhood on August 4, 2013 in an article titled, "In Hester Park neighborhood, traditions are plentiful, memories feel fresh and residents are 'always home.'
- Neighbor Matthew Quiring received the Citizen Fire Safety Award during the Saint Cloud City Council meeting on Monday, July 29. On June 16, Quiring noticed a glow in a hallway light fixture at 510 8th Avenue North, after which he evacuated the apartment building and contained the fire. The ceremony is available as an archived video on the city's website, plus was mentioned in the July 30 edition of the Saint Cloud Times.
- The Saint Cloud Times published a story about the neighborhood's new "Neighbor Proud" acknowledgment program on July 26, 2013.
- Four murals were recently installed at the transit center in Downtown Saint Cloud, of which, one is dedicated to our neighborhood's Hester Park. This was reported by WJON on July 22 and theSaint Cloud Times on July 23, 2013.
- The Saint Cloud Times is publishing a series of articles titled, "Building Better Blocks." Our neighborhood was featured on March 25. The two articles specifically relating to our neighborhood are, "North side's foundation built on history" and "Hospital reaches out to neighbors."
- On March 7, the Saint Cloud Times reported that former neighbor Peter Marshall won an IMAX award for his documentary, "2600 above 60." The video can be viewed online atwww.Canoe2012.com.
- On January 31, WJON aired a report of places to go sledding. Our Hester Park was at the top of their list.
- In January 2013, the jewel of our neighborhood made it to the federal level. In a business deal involving FCC licensing, parties have agreed that, "Any or all disputes will be settled at the park bench overlooking the Mississippi River at Hester Park," versus arbitration, etc. This was reported by Upper Midwest Broadcasting and is confirmed by one page of that agreement.
In The News: 2012
- Unfortunately a third fire occurred in the neighborhood. this time the garage of a steering committee member at 810 7th Avenue North, on Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
- Unfortunately there has been another house fire, this one more damaging at 511 7th Avenue North, on Monday, September 10. The next day it was also reported by the Saint Cloud Times.
- Unfortunately there was house fire in the 900 block of 8th Avenue North on Sunday, July 22, as reported by WJON.. Repairs were started promptly.
- On April 24, both the Saint Cloud Times and WJON reported on the mayor's veto of the vacation of Veterans Drive.
- On April 2, WJON reported on demolition of the old railroad light tower, which stood just a few yards within our neighborhood's official boundaries.
- On Wednesday, WJON reported on the citywide neighborhoods meeting that will occur Thursday, January 26.

- Various news items were published July 3 and following dates in regards to the severe weather that hit Saint Cloud, and particularly the Northside-Hester Park Neighborhoood.
- The Saint Cloud Times is reporting that the Wilson School building will soon be occupied byLittle Saints Academy.
- The Saint Cloud Times published an opinion article by Glenda Burgeson on volunteering. It features the recent neighborhood home tour.
- WJON is focusing on "Who are your neighbors?" the week of April 25, 2011: Monday's teaser,Tuesday's report, Wednesday's report.
- The Saint Cloud Times published an article about our third annual home tour on Saturday, April 23.

In The News: 2010
- After Hester Park's centennial picnic, the Saint Cloud Times published a story titled, "Neighborhood celebrates Hester Park's 100 years," on September 20, 2010.
- Two residents, Sean Henry and Vicki Henry are pictured by the Saint Cloud Times on September 5 as part of the We-R-Artists article. Unfortunately the online version lacks the full cover featured in the print edition.
- Wilson School will be used as storage during the 2010-2011 school year. The district planned to immediately sell the building, but according to an August 27 report by WJON, the sale has been deferred until the economy improves.
- A reunion for Wilson School is being organized for June 26, 12-3 PM according to the June 14 issue of the Saint Cloud Times.
- Neighbor Kirk Smith will be honored June 6 at the City Council meeting for restoring his Queen Anne style home at Sixth Avenue and Third Street North. Details published byWJON on June 1and the Saint Cloud Times on June 2 .
- The Saint Cloud Police Department held a "Community Notification Meeting" on March 3, 2010. A "level three" offender is moving into the area. Details available on the SCPD's fact sheet . A 15-page document of safety tips for a variety of life situations was distributed.
- Let's play Jeopardy! The cool news around town is that Nick Yozamp is on Jeopardy. The Saint Cloud Times on Friday, March 12, 2010 features Cathedral High School faculty and Nick's former Knowledge Bowl advisor, John Augustin (a neighborhood resident).
- Marje Moore passed away on February 6. An obituary should become available fromBenson Funeral Home , along with online guestbook.
- On January 29, 2010 it was reported by the Saint Cloud Times that the school board gave final approval to closing the Wilson Building, as reported in the article "ALC programs to be run from McKinley center in Waite Park ."
- On January 11, 2010, the city council will hold a public hearing to consider the 9th Avenue North Corridor Study. The study is available for online viewing in a large PDF file .
In The News: 2009
- The school board has voted to move the ALC out of Wilson School building according to the article "St. Cloud school to close in '10 " within the November 20, 2009 edition of the Saint Cloud Times.
- On Friday, July 3, 2009 our neighborhood was featured in the Saint Cloud Times' article "Residents tighten bonds in tough times ."
- On Tuesday, June 23, 2009 KARE 11 television reported about the Hester Park successful pool fundraiser with their story, "Temps in the '90s; No sweat for kids in St. Cloud Neighborhood ." Similar stories were reported by AM 1240 WJON and the Saint Cloud Times.
- WJON publicized on May 26, 2009 that "Hester Park pool will open, thanks to neighborhood efforts ." The neighborhood needs to continue their fundraising towards the $7,500 goal to keep the pool open all summer. Twin Cities television station KARE 11 ran a news report on May 27, 2009 titled "St. Cloud neighborhood takes plunge, saves pool ." Additionally, the Saint Cloud Times published a similar article on May 28, 2009 titled, "Hester Park pool to open - for now."
- USA Today published an article on May 25, 2009 titled "As funds for summer fun dry up, citizens pool resources ." It mentions efforts to keep the Hester Park wading pool open.
- The school district administration just realized that they own the open field at 8th Avenue & 12th Street North (east of, and across the avenue from ALC Wilson). Though most the neighbors probably knew the land was owned by the district, the current district administration just realized that they own the land. The tentative plan is to sell it once the real estate market improves. Read the article in the May 16, 2009 edition of the Saint Cloud Times" Please disregard the Times' map (PDF) , which incorrectly depicts the locations of ALC Wilson and the land in question.
- The Victorian House at 6th Avenue & 3rd Street North was featured in the Saint Cloud Times on April 26, 2009.
